Tips and best practices

Default language and translation priority

  • If a translation for a specific language is not configured, the default language (usually the store’s primary language) settings will be displayed
  • We recommend completing all settings in the default language first to provide a consistent experience across all languages

Culturally appropriate translations

  • Consider expressions that match the culture and gift-giving customs of each language region, rather than literal translations
  • For example, expressions for “congratulations” or “condolences” may have different appropriate phrasings depending on the culture

Testing and verifying translations

  1. After setting up translations, check the display by switching to each language on your actual storefront
  2. Use Shopify’s preview feature to test each language version before publishing

How to add languages

If the language you want to translate isn’t available in the multilingual support feature, you’ll need to first add that language in Shopify’s language settings.

  1. Go to [Settings] > [Languages] in your Shopify admin
  2. Click the [Add language] button and select the language you want to add
  3. Once the language is added, return to the “Gift Option Plus” app and configure your translations
